4 Reasons Why Aloe Vera is Great for Your Hair
1. It can strengthen and repair your hair.
Aloe vera packs the vitamins A, C, and E. Those vitamins are known to promote the healthy growth of cells as it contributes to cell turnover, giving your hair a smooth, shiny glow. So far, the jury’s still out if it actually does promote hair growth.
Wash your hair as usual and towel dry. Rub hair with a combination of aloe vera and olive oil and allow it to sink into your hair for 15-20 minutes. Then, rinse it out and then towel dry your hair again. Work 1 tablespoon of aloe vera gel through your hair from the roots to the ends. If your hair is considerably damaged, rub in a few drops of oil or your favourite moisturiser before applying the aloe vera. Allow it to completely penetrate. Part your hair and rub the aloe vera in your scalp to soothe it and then add moisture. Healthy hair begins with a wholesome scalp, so try to pay as much attention to the scalp as possible. Add a drop of essential oil like lavender or rosemary if desired. Lavender has regenerative properties and rosemary is also notorious for stimulating hair growth and repair; they have a pleasant aroma too.
2. It moisturises your hair.
Besides the vitamins, minerals, and fatty acid, one of the most beneficial ingredients for your hair in aloe vera is the proteolytic enzymes. These naturally-occurring enzymes lock in moisture on your scalp and hair. That’s why some recommend aloe vera for people with dry, brittle hair.
3. It helps cleanse oily hair.
Aloe vera is effective in cleaning off the excess sebum and other impurities from your hair follicles. And since it’s not as potent as the chemicals in some hair products,o it leaves your hair strands in tip-top condition as it cleanses your oily hair. Fixing dry hair can be frequently accompanied by undesirable acrylic build-up. Luckily, Aloe Vera can be used as a rinse for oily hair without further, unwanted effects like making hair dry or brittle. The rinse is not difficult to make and only needs one part aloe vera juice with two parts lemon juice, then apply to the rotating shaft of the hair.
4. It can treat your itchy scalp
Aloe vera has been known for its anti-inflammation properties; that’s why we put it on our skin after we suntan! It can work as a mild cleanser if you have dry scalp or any scalp inflammation. Try applying some aloe vera directly on your scalp, and just rinse it off when it starts to feel sticky on your hair.
Based on what scientific evidence has discovered about aloe vera and its unique properties, aloe vera might be able to reduce dandruff due to the following reasons:
- moisturizing effect on dry skin
- anti-inflammatory actions that may help reduce irritation
- enzymes that may help reduce inflammation when applied to the skin
- antioxidant properties that can prevent cell damage

A few things to note
Try using the raw gel of the aloe vera plant if you want to apply it on your scalp or hair. You can find them easily in pharmacies, or just scoop it out from an actual aloe vera plant if you have them at home.
But before you apply it on your body, it’s best to check if you’re allergic to aloe vera. Just rub a small patch of aloe vera on the side of your wrist, if your skin reacts badly in the next two hours, you might be sensitive to aloe vera. Avoid aloe vera if you’re applying hydrocortisone cream on your skin; it may increase the skin’s absorption of cortisone if you use them both.
