How to Plan the Perfect Spa Day For Your Date

For this Valentine’s Day, forget about thronging Orchard Road or waiting in line for a seat at a fancy cafe. A movie date night is such a cliche anyways. Why not unwind with your date with a spa day! It’s hassle-free, and you get to catch up on some well-deserved rest. Looking forward to it already? Here are our tips on how to plan the perfect spa day for this Valentine’s or any other special occasion.

Planning a spa date sound stressful, but fear not. You only need to keep things simple for a spa retreat. At the end of the day, the most important thing is to recharge and reconnect with your partner. As cliched as it may sound, it still rings true: it’s the thought that counts.

1. Find the Right Spa

But you have to know what your partner needs first. Has your partner been complaining about sore shoulders? Or maybe they’ve been dying for a manicure? Then drop a call in and check with the spa if they have the spa treatment you have in mind. Just because it’s on the first spot on Google doesn’t mean that they have what you want.

That said, you also need to check the reviews, and more importantly, the cleanliness. After all, spas usually have many clients back to back. If the sheets and tools aren’t cleaned properly, you might be at risk of infection, and we wouldn’t want that, would we?

2. Check for the Spa’s License and Registration

Under the Massage Establishment Act, a spa requires a Message Establishment (ME) License before they can offer services such as manicure treatments, massages, foot-reflexology, and spa baths.

Though, if you’re looking for Traditional Chinese Medicine (if that’s your idea of romance) or other curative massages, the spa could be exempt from the ME License. But the curative treatment should be administered by:

  • A physiotherapist who is a member of the Singapore Physiotherapy Association;
  • A person who is registered as a Traditional Chinese Medicine physician under section 14 of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners Act and who has been issued with a practising certificate under section 17 of that Act; or
  • An occupational therapist who is a member of the Singapore Association of Occupational Therapists.

3. Plan Your Treatments

Most of the time you can just rely on the packages by the spa. They usually put together a pretty solid lineup for any type of couple. Plus, you might get a good bang for your buck too! Or maybe you can even sign up for their membership plans if you want a regular massage in the future.

But if you want to customise your experience, you could get help from the staff to see what order makes sense. For example, if you want a full body massage and a facial, it might be best to schedule the facial after the massage. That way you can truly lay back and relax for the facial.

4. Keep Your Meals Light Beforehand

A bloated stomach and spa dates don’t mix. The last thing anybody wants is for flatulence to mix with the calming lavender scent. So keep to a light meal beforehand.

But if you’re going to be at the spa for a few hours, you might want to bring some snacks. The cucumber may be free, but not every spa offer free mini-quiches.

5. Keep You Schedule Clear

Keep your schedule easy and light. It might be difficult to truly relax when you know have something on after the spa day. Though, winding down after a few outdoor activities could be a way to get the most out of your precious spa day. Then you can truly enjoy your time with that special someone for this Valentine’s Day.
