This popular South-Asian cuisine has been fancied by many, including myself. The yellow rice, as many may call it, is one of the most popular dishes in our region. Known as Biryani, or Briyani in today’s context, is made with Indian Spices, Rice, Meat, Vegetables and Eggs. Originated from India, this is the most sought-after amongst so many Indian delicacies today. If you’re in for this exotic dish (I wouldn’t call it exotic as it is my personal favourite), let us go on a food hunt to find out the cream of the crop by Tropika Club. We will take you through aggregated rankings or “ranking of rankings” compared from the following sources to further ascertain the final rankings. Introduction: Allaudin’s Briyani calls itself the “briyani specialist” which probably has some truth. Allaudin’s Briyani Pte Ltd has been selling briyani since the 1950s, which means it has more than 60 years of history in the field. This unassuming briyani stall has been featured in numerous newspapers such as Sunday Times, The Window, You Magazine, Life!eats. As it’s a landmark in Little India, expect plenty of Indian fare. The biryani is very famous; you may choose mutton, chicken or fish as a topping.
Offerings: Served with a generous piece of delicate lamb, chicken or fish (at your choice) soaked in exquisite curry sauce, a bowl of curry and 3 pieces of papadum, this is the signature dish in Allaudin’s Briyani. The yellow basmati rice is fluffy and injected with heaps of flavors. Definitely worth the try!

Introduction: Bismillah Biryani is a four-time winner of Michelin Bib Gourmand, an honourable award that designates the restaurant that serves quality food at good value. What makes their biryani different is that they use combination ovens, which feature both convection and steaming cooking methods. This makes their rice very aromatic, fluffy, and moist.
Offerings: A definite must-try if you were to patronise the stall – the legendary Chicken Dum Biryani priced at SGD 8.50. It is made up of marinated chicken with basmati rice, boiled egg, and raita. Unlike regular curry-drenched biryani, this is served with raita as the yogurt-based sauce is lighter and helps with digestion. The fork-tender and moist chicken meat goes extremely well with the aromatic rice and raita. The marinated meat is cooked together with the rice – spiced up with saffron and chopped cashew nuts to increase the savoury of it.

3. Islamic Restaurant
Introduction: Kicking off with the grand-daddy of the list – this venerable establishment is nearly 100 years old! Islamic Restaurant is a shoo-in on the lists of biryani lovers all over Singapore. In its heyday during the ’70s, the nasi briyani served at this quaint shophouse restaurant was said to be a hit with dignitaries, ministers and businessmen alike. Today, a generation later, its age-old recipes still stand the test of time. In fact, so popular is the briyani here that there’s even a dedicated hotline!

Introduction: Located at Eunos Crescent Market & Food Centre, Mami Midah Biryani is here to stay. Offering healthier plates by substituting coconut milk with evaporated milk and ghee with vegetable oil, you no longer have to fret about putting on weights! What matters most is, despite using healthier alternatives, their nasi biryani’s taste is not compromised.
Offerings: Fancy a plate of Nasi Bryani at only SGD 5.50? You’re in at the right place. Enjoy a mouthful of lean and flavourful meat (chicken/mutton at your choosing) with the fragrance rice, and served alongside is the sweet and sour achar which goes extremely well with the biyiani.
